The St. Peters Figure Skating Association was begun in the mid 1990's to support the ISI Learn
to Skate Program at the St. Peters Rec-Plex and to give some recognition to the local skaters. The thought was that
down the line as the skaters advanced our skaters would need to start doing USFSA testing and competitions and we
wanted to get USFSA skaters in our shows. Therefore, we also started the process of becoming a USFSA Club.
Janet Cipolla was the first president but was soon replaced when she became ill. Sharon
Campione took over the reins and guided the club through the process of getting USFSA Club status and setting up the club's
nonprofit status. After that Sharon was the test chair for several years before retiring from skating. Taking
over next was Shelley Wisneor, who guided the club through it's beginning years as a USFSA club and finished getting our non-profit
status. Rec-Plex Skating School director Jenise Jenson and skating dad Russ Crowder provided lots of help with the paperwork.
Many others who served on the first Boards also contributed much to shaping and establishing the club.
After Janet Cipolla's death a fund was established in her name to assist skaters and the club.
Jill Irvin designed our official logo, and Katie Wejgrowicz designed the logo presently in use.
Since our establishment the club has help host the ISI Worlds in 1998 in St. Louis area.
After doing such a great job hosting Worlds Jenise Jenson and the Rec-Plex, as well the St. Louis sports community, were
asked to host the first ever State Games of America. Being a brand new nation wide effort there were a few bumps in
the road, but we pulled it off and St. Louis was again asked to host in 2001.
The synchro teams and individual skaters under the tutelage of the excellent Rec-Plex staff have
done very well in ISI and USFS competitions locally and nationally Among our alumni we have skaters who have
competed at US Regionals, US Nationals and Internationally. Our adult skaters have also placed well
at National level competitions in both ISI and USFS.
